Edinburgh transport

Edinburgh may lack the variety of public transport that Glasgow offers but the bus service, particularly those offered by Lothian Buses, do go some way to compensate for the lack of underground or major train lines around the city. Any journey length costs a flat-rate of £1 with an all-day ticket available at £2.50, which allows the user to travel around the city freely.

Visitors to Edinburgh in the near future should be aware there are major road works planned for the city centre and this is going to cause upheaval and delays throughout the city but it is predicted the work will be completed before the festival season begins. The work is to provide a tram service to Edinburgh which is scheduled for completion for 2010 and should link Leith to the city centre and out to Edinburgh Airport . The tram will hopefully be a welcome addition to the transport networks in the city but do expect delays during the construction of these lines.
The majority of the tourist attractions in Edinburgh are situated around the city centre so it can be easy enough to walk from place to place and walking is definitely recommended on Princes Street where the traffic can back up so much that it is as quick to walk the length of it as opposed to getting the bus.

Taxis in Edinburgh do seem slightly expensive so they are not always the best option for a traveller on a budget or if you are sure of where you are going between but the black hacks are in plentiful supply in the city centre area if the need arises.
