Edinburgh football

When football fans think of Scotland , their thoughts inevitably turn to the Celtic versus Rangers matches but in Edinburgh , there is a fierce football rivalry that encompasses much of the passion and fury of its Glasgow counterpart but with a reduction in the religious hatred.

A lot of trouble is associated with the Glasgow match and its probably no place for a stranger or neutral where the wrong word or impartial comment may be interpreted incorrectly so its possibly best to give that a miss but like in many things in life, Edinburgh offers a fine substitute for what Glasgow has to offer and this is certainly true for footballing matters.

Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian may sound like rather glamorous names for football clubs but when the two Edinburgh clubs meet, all notions of glamour go out of the window as the bragging rights for their fans take the utmost importance. Unlike the Glasgow derby where tickets are scarce, its possible for visitors to obtain a ticket for the Edinburgh match and its worth it to see the opposing fans taunt and berate each other as much as whatever entertainment is served up on the football pitch.

With both grounds easily reachable from the city centre and many pubs situated around the grounds to soak up the atmosphere, any football fan visiting Edinburgh would be well advised to check out the fixture lists and if there is an Edinburgh derby match scheduled during their stay, to head along to the game and soak up the atmosphere.
