Edinburgh Attractions

Edinburgh is a beautiful city with many historic and modern attractions. Dominated by Edinburgh Castle which houses the National War Museum of Scotland, the Crown Jewels of Scotland and the One O’clock Gun, this is an iconic landmark.

The Royal Mile stretches from the castle to Holyrood Palace, the official residence of the Queen in Scotland and the former home of Mary Queen of Scots and the murder of Lord Darnley. Walk along Princes Street to the Scots Monument where bagpipes can often be heard. The Grassmarket is one of the oldest parts of the city and lies in the shadow of the Castle. Visit the National Museum of Scotland and the Museum of Childhood for some interesting local exhibits.

Camera Obscura is a fascinating perspective on the city. The Edinburgh Dungeon tells the story of Scotland’s gruesome past, and the Georgian House depicts life in Edinburgh during that period. Take a walk in the beautiful Botanical Gardens and watch rugby at Murrayfield. For great views and a bracing walk visit Arthur’s Seat. Edinburgh comes to life in August for the world famous Edinburgh Festival with the Fringe and Military Tattoo, and if you are in Scotland on New Year’s Eve, Hogmanay in Edinburgh is unforgettable.
